Following the formal unveiling on day two of Google I/O, Samsung and Google held a joint event to further show off the hardware to a group of journalists and give us some hands-on time with one of the first Chromebooks, the Samsung Chromebook Series 5. The Samsung Series 5 is much better.First of all, the Samsung device seems far faster than the Cr-48. That’s a bit surprising since the specs aren’t all that different except for the fact that the samsung Chromebook Series 5 has a dual-core Intel Atom chip as opposed to the single-core one that the Cr-48 has. The RAM, SSD, etc, are the same. So apparently the chip does make the big difference.
Make no mistake, though: the Samsung Chromebook Series 5 is more laptop than netbook. And it's a damn memorable one, too -- one that belies its $429 starting price. Even after hearing Darren extol the Series 5's build quality in his hands-on last month, we were pleasantly surprised by its thoughtful design. The first thing you'll notice is the glossy, white lid with metal Samsung and Chrome logos -- including a colorful globe to signify Google's OS. While we've seen our share of branding overload, the logos in this case add character without being tacky.
All this said, the experience is not quite Samsung Chromebook Series 5 for us right now, but we presume it is the case for our readers, especially early adopters. Then - and here we get to the point - if you're sure you can live in the Chrome browser and one browser Chrome, and it would be easy to trade local storage for a starting time of zero seconds, we believe we have a lot Chromebooks potentials. Whether you choose to buy now, is your call, but once you do, the Samsung Chromebook series 5 is an impressive setting. It is solid, built with care, and long term. A companion of fools for people who are ready to move to the cloud, and not look back.Samsung Chromebook Series 5
